On Our Way Home

We arrived in Basel this morning after a wonderful cruise on the Rhine
River. I could get used to that kind of life. We saw so many incredible towns along our route. So many charming villages, awesome churches and cathedrals, and the castles...impossible to describe. Anxious to share our photos.
Internet connection was very sporadic, so I gave up trying to post something everyday. We're very anxious to get back home.
See you all soon!!!

On The Rhine River

Well, we made it onboard the ship...it is incredible!!!! We are still getting our bearings. We came aboard about 3:00PM, and we set sail about 4:30. Dinner is served at 7:30. Hopefully, I can bring you all up to date on our wonderful travels. Hitzacher, Germany was a charming little village. We spent two nights there in a Bed and Breakfast run by an elderly couple.
I'll post this now, and get back to you all later.
We arrived in Hamburg on Tuesday evening around 9pm. We had reservations at a nearby hotel, but because it was so close, the taxis didn't want to drive us there. They kept saying it was a short walk. It was raining a bit, and we really didn't want to walk, but we headed off in that direction. Finally, a gentleman called a friend to pick us up and take us to the hotel. We settled in and had a much needed sleep. After breakfast, we stored our bags at the front desk and walked back to the airport to pick up our rental car. We changed our minds once we got to the airport and decided to take the train to town and do a little sightseeing. On the return to the airport, we picked up the car, and attempted to return to the hotel to get our bags. Easier said than done. We made a wrong turn, and ended up in a dead-end street. WE COULDN'T GET THE CAR IN REVERSE!!!!! It's been a long time since Guenter drove a standard transmission car. I was afraid we were stuck there for the duration. After about 15 minutes, a gentleman parked close by...Guenter asked for help....there is a flange you have to lift to get the car in reverse. We got our bags and headed Southeast to Hitzacker.

Ready, get set, GO

The bags are packed, all the travel papers are in order, and in a little over 24 hours, we'll be on our way to LAX and heading to Hamburg, Germany.
Guenter left Germany in 1956 (at age 19), and this will be his first trip back to his homeland.
I expect some emotional moments over the next two weeks. Hopefully, I can keep a running commentary of our travels.
Stay tuned for the latest travel news!
